FBLA: Hannibal Career and Technical Center

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is a nonprofit organization with 25 million students preparing for careers in business and related fields.There are four division in the association.

  • Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) for high school students.
  • FBLA-Middle Level for middle and intermediate school students.
  • Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) for college and academies students.
  • Professional Division for business people and FBLA supporters.

FBLA is funded by membership dues, conference fees and grants. Scholarships are awarded to winners at the national conference. Recognition by many education and business organizations such as the Association for Career and Technical Education and the U.S. Department of Education gives FBLA importance.

Mission

The mission of FBLA is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.

Goals of FBLA

  • Strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work.
  • Create more interest in and understanding of the American business enterprise.
  • Develop business leadership.
  • Encourage the development of individual projects that contribute to the improvement of homes, businesses, and communities.
  • Practice efficient management of money.
  • Promote school loyalty and encourage scholarship.
  • Help students establish goals.
  • Help the transition from school to work.

Some Brief History

In 1937, Dr. Hamden L. Forkner of Columbia University developed the concept of a student organization called Future Business Leaders of America. It was first used in 1942 at the Johnson City High School located in Tennessee. The FBLA-PBL headquarters is located in Reston, Virginia, and is organized on local, state, and national levels. Teachers, advisers, state educators, business leaders and the division presidents advise the organization.
